Joburg to Durban Run
For our 13th Joburg to Durban Run, as usual, we met at Vaal Star Stop (Villiers) for breakfast. Departing just after 9.30am we rode on the N3 all the way to Durbs, stopping for petrol at Monte Vista Star Stop (Harrismith), Estcourt Ultra City and Cato One Stop.
The wind was howling at more than 100kph from the top of Van Reenen's Pass all the way past Mooi River and there was thick veld-fire smoke to contend with as well, so the road going down wasn't so lekker, but hey... Africa's not for sissies, so we handled it.
at Estcourt Ultra City... you can see the wind blowing and the thick smoke
Then we rode into Durban, where we stayed at the 3-Star, Blue Waters Hotel... what a grand Hotel it was.
and I was on the grandest of all tourers, a Harley Ultra Classic Electra Glide

Saturday morning, after an early breakfast we rode in convoy along the beach-front to uShaka, parked our bikes in uShaka Village and went for our Redline Indian Ocean Kayak Tour.

For the few of us brave enough to do the Kayaking thingy, we paddled out to inspect the Shark nets, checked out the Ovington Court shipwreck and then paddled back to Vetchies Pier (man-made reef) to have a gander at some of the fish there, and then back to shore for a quick goof. The rest of the guys visited uShaka Marine World and Village while we were out to sea.

Sunday we rode out of Durban early, again riding in strong winds through Van Reenen's. I was grateful I was on the Harley-Davidson Electra glide, I was hardly affected by the wind, while seeing Dewald riding at 30 degrees against the wind.
